A heartfelt goodbye

After a lot of thought, I’ve made the difficult decision to shut Maskbunny down on September 1, 2026. New signups are now disabled, and existing users should move to another service before that date.

I haven’t actively worked on the project for around five years. Since then, I’ve kept it running mostly because it was already here and because people still found value in it. But keeping a privacy service online simply for the sake of keeping it online no longer feels like the responsible thing to do.

Maskbunny deserves regular attention, ongoing maintenance, and the time needed to keep it reliable and secure. I’m no longer able to give it that. There are also many excellent alternatives today with dedicated teams who are actively improving their products and supporting their users. I believe you’ll be better served by one of them.

To everyone who signed up, trusted Maskbunny with a small part of their online life, shared it with a friend, sent feedback, or simply gave it a try: thank you. Your support meant more to me than you probably realized, and I’m genuinely grateful that something I built was useful to you.

Building Maskbunny was a meaningful chapter for me. Although it’s hard to close that chapter, I know this is the right decision rather than continuing to keep the service alive “just because.”
